Würzburg Residence

Documentation room showing the reconstruction of the Würzburg Residence

Picture: Documentation room

After the damage to the Residence from the air raid in 1945 and the first provisional roofing organized by the American officer of the Monuments and Fine Arts Section, John Davis Skilton, the Bavarian Palace Administration began comprehensive maintenance and reconstruction work. The documentation room adjacent to the memorial room in remembrance of the destruction in 1945 sheds light on the enormous achievement represented by the reconstruction of the Residence and pays it the tribute it is due.

In addition to interesting exhibits and large-format photos, short historical film sequences provide an insight into the various individual processes involved in a successful restoration or reconstruction. The exhibition focuses primarily on the roof work, the Green Lacquered Room, the Princes’ Hall and the internationally unique Mirror Cabinet.
