At the beginning of the 19th century, Grand Duke Ferdinand III of Tuscany had the original art gallery divided into three rooms and completely refurnished, along with the other Tuscany Rooms, in Empire style. Since, however, the permanent wall furnishings of these rooms were destroyed in 1945, the current gallery is based on the room as it was constructed in the 18th century.
